How to measure?
• Simple: Use masking tape to outline where you would like to place your rug, then measure each side with a tape measure to determine the rug size needed.

Lounge / Living Room
A living room rug can add timeless character to your living spaces. Choosing the right rug size for your living room is essential for creating a balanced, cohesive space. In larger homes, extra large rugs for open plan living areas help define zones and anchor your furniture, ensuring the entire area feels connected.
If comfort and durability are a priority, wool rugs for living rooms are a popular choice in Australian homes, offering natural softness underfoot while standing up to everyday use.
The key is selecting a rug that fits your layout properly, with enough coverage to frame your lounge and create a well-proportioned look. Below are a few layout ideas.
Layout ideas:

Option 1 - Place all your furniture on top of the rug. This will require larger sizes but will make the room feel larger, so for this reason we recommend this option.

Option 2 - Place furniture only partially on top of the rug - e.g. under the front legs of your lounge.

Option 3 - Place your rug under a coffee table only, in front of sofas and chairs. This is a budget friendly option that typically uses smaller or medium sized rugs.

Dining Room
Ideally, your dining room rug should cover both the dining room table and chairs.
To ensure your rug covers the chairs, pull the chairs away from the table to simulate someone pulling a chair away from the table in preparation for sitting at the table.
Measure this distance and add to the width of the table, then do the same for the length, assuming all 4 sides of the table are to be used.
Here is an example:
Table Width: 1m
Chairs: 0.65m x 2 = 1.3m
Total rug width required: 2.3m
Table Width: 1.8m
Chairs: 0.65m x 2 = 1.3m
Total rug length required: 3.1m
Minimum Rug Size required: 3.1m x 2.3m
Follow a similar process for a round dining table, in which case a round rug may be suitable - pull the chairs away from the table to simulate someone pulling a chair away from the table in preparation for sitting at the table. With the chairs pulled out, measure the diameter from the back of two chairs on opposite sides of the round table to find the rug size most suitable.

Entry
An entry rug can add the finishing touches to a home’s entrance area, wowing your guests, setting the scene for your home’s style, and also providing floor protection for a high traffic area.

Bedroom
Measure the size of the bedroom rug that you will need according to the layout you would like in your bedroom and / or use our rug visualiser tool available on our product pages to check the correct size rug for your bedroom.
Layout ideas:

Option 1: Your rug covers most if not all of the entire length and width of your bed, and beyond, extending at the sides and end of the bed, if you wish. This will require larger sizes but will make the room feel larger, so for this reason we recommend this option.

Option 2: Your rug sits under the end of your bed and extends beyond the bed.

Option 3: Your rug sits at the end of your bed - i.e. between the end of your bed and a wall or wardrobe.

Option 4: Use runner rugs either side of your bed. This is a budget friendly option that typically uses smaller or medium sized runner rugs such as 150 x 80, 200 x 80 or 300 x 30cm.

Coffee Table
A rug placed under a coffee table could cover just the coffee table, or also include a larger section of the room as well, such as extending underneath a lounge - see lounge room images above.

Hallways
Perfect for adding style to your hallways and also protecting your floors in a high traffic area. These rugs can be found in our runner rugs category. Choose the size that suits the length of your hallway the best. If your hallway is long, multiple runner rugs can be used.

Kitchens
There are a couple of options for kitchen rugs. For narrow rugs see our “runners” category, or use smaller sized rectangular rugs for kitchens with larger floor spaces. Choose the size that suits the length of your kitchen the best.

Outdoor living areas
An outdoor living area rug can be the perfect addition to complete your outdoor living area. Rugs for these spaces are specifically designed for outdoor areas to cope with all weather conditions.
Styling options are similar to indoor living room options above - i.e. larger rugs that bring all of the furniture elements together are best, however smaller rugs can be used as well to suit smaller budgets and to place under single decor elements such as a coffee table.
